Ocean Innovation 2010, in conjunction with the City of St. John's, is pleased to announce a Sunday Afternoon Public Lecture on October 17 by Dr. Albert Bradley, principal engineer at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Mr. Bradley tells the life story of ABE, the Autonomous Benthic Explorer, a deep ocean exploration robot. Starting with the tale of how they received funding to build such a neat toy, he describes ABE's early steps and missteps as it evolved into a useful tool for geophysics. His lecture will explore some of ABE's many adventures and close scrapes as it evolved into an important tool for deep ocean research. He concludes with the sad tale of its recent demise and tells briefly of its successor.
Bring the family out and enjoy a talk by a man who is renowned for his captivating and thought provoking presentations. It is an afternoon not to miss!
